Transitional Modern Bathroom
Hello friends! I wanted to give you an update on the bathroom renovations at the beach cottage. I have been so drawn to a transitional modern bathroom look. Pinterest can be your best friend or your worst enemy in making design decisions! There are just so many looks that I love that I struggled with DMD {decision making disorder}. There are times when I can whip out design decisions in a day and be thrilled with the outcome, but then there are always those projects that I am about as fast as a turtle. I was paralyzed in making the final decisions for these bathrooms because I love it all!! I love modern but I live in a cottage so I needed to marry the two. I’m happy so far with the direction everything is going as of now.
I have gathered final selections for both bathrooms which will have a black + white modern cottage aesthetic. I am beyond thrilled to have carrara marble for my vanity countertops! I’ve been informed that Dupont makes a wonderful new sealer to protect it. I’m counting on that! I never thought I’d be taking out the old, gold fixtures and replacing them with…gold. But my gold is champagne gold, or you could say champagne bronze. Less subtle than flashy gold, which I LOVE by the way, but I’m feeling more comfortable with a little tone down.

Now I have more news. I may be slightly totally excited about!! A couple of weeks ago, the air conditioner died at the cottage. There was no sad memorial service to be held but rather a PARTAAY! She was old and served us well for many years in the hot, sweltering humid Florida climate. Okay, so we did not budget or plan to buy a new AC which is not cheap. When she died, she leaked and damaged our original 1960’s hardwood floors. Kind of sad, yes. But, I’ve been wanting to replace the floors in the entire home so it would flow more nicely. We were already replacing the flooring in the master bedroom and one of the boy’s bedrooms. Now we will be replacing the entire house flooring. Our old floors were not repairable from the water damage {insert my happy dance!} Our family room and kitchen currently have mexican tiles that were okay, but honestly I’ve never cared for them and have been maintaining that look for seven years. Change is good!
Here comes the design domino effect. New floors lead to new baseboards and trim, which lead to new paint inside AND outside, which lead to new windows, which lead to new doors….It goes on and on. We figured we’re gutting the house so let’s do it right. The only room not getting touched (other than new floors) is the kitchen. A facelift is due in there too but just not now. It’s still charming and quaint and since we don’t cook much while we are there it serves it’s purpose well for our family. I’ll be keeping you posted!
I can’t wait to see more as it comes along. I know with your hand in it, it will be amazing friend!!! Can’t get enough of that lovely tile and the whole black and white scheme you are going with ;))
Hi Bree!
