Summer Outdoor Dining Designed like your home

The snow has finally melted away and all the feels of summer are starting to emerge out here in the forest. We may have the longest winters, but our summers are so beautiful in Colorado! The patio furniture is back in place, the bubbling rock fountain is trickling in the background, fresh buds appear on the aspen trees and the smell of pine is thick from all the majestic evergreen trees surrounding our home.

One of my favorite things about summer is dining outdoors. Whether it be with family or friends, conversations seem to linger around a dinner table outside on the patio. I’m so excited to share with you today how I design our outdoor dining table to aesthetically harmonize with our home. I’ve partnered with Walmart to create the most beautiful tablescape to elevate the outdoor dining experience. I’m always finding the perfect pieces at a budget friendly price from Walmart Home.

I love when the outdoor setting compliments the home interior and exterior.  The style of our home is comfort, modern with a color palette of black, grey, white, natural linen and wood tones. It’s all about how you layer the colors and texture to create a curated design that feels effortless and comfortable.

The key to creating an outdoor dining experience is to carry what you see inside the home to the outside. Add layers of tone on tone colors and texture with natural greenery. It’s so fun to create a tablescape on our patio with the backdrop of black/grey walls, natural stone accents and a natural wood table as the foundation.

I layered the table with these pretty gray chambray french stripe placemats. These exposed clay stoneware dinner plates are perfect for the outdoor setting! They look a lot more expensive than the incredible price they actually are! I rolled these simple white fabric napkins and tied with twine. A snip of lavender tucked in adds a fun little touch.

How perfect is this black mirror flatware that ties in so nicely with our home exterior!  You know black is my favorite color and I’ll always incorporate it into my designs. It really dresses up the table and balances nicely with the stoneware.

Often times the beverages are carried beyond the table to the fire pit area and I love how these cute Better Homes & Gardens stripe tumblers are shatter resistant. Instead of using a traditional water pitcher I filled a few of these 9.5″ glass cylinder vases with water and lemons for guests to refill their water throughout the meal.

For a centerpiece I mixed a variety of garden planters and filled with potted lavender I found in the garden section at Walmart. I love how they give off a subtle fragrance for the table and look natural and organic. I like to mix variegated heights in the planters as well for a less “formal” feel.

The natural weaving through this white glazed ceramic pot adds that touch of texture. I’m a little obsessed with this grey ceramic planter with it’s scalloped edge and cement look. So many fun ways to style it!

Never underestimate the presence of a mini pot as well. This 6″ hand painted ceramic pot is too cute and would also be fun to use for an herb garden display.

Off to the side of the table I like to have a drink station as well. This galvanized tub is a great size to hold just enough beverages and ice. I love to incorporate galvanized metal in my outdoor entertaining scenes. It always looks good and goes well with a relaxed and casual vibe.

The detail on this 12″ white ceramic planter is gorgeous! I’ll be using this one on some kitchen shelf styling when not in use outside and could also serve as a pretty fruit bowl on your countertop. I also have the smaller 8″ planter on the table filled with lavender. Such a versatile piece!

Last but certainly not least, always have an abundance of water in various vessels. This Better Homes & Gardens 2 gallon beverage dispenser just feels like summer, doesn’t it?

I hope this sets you in the mood for some fun summer outdoor dining! Be sure to check out all the great summer finds from Walmart to style your home and patio for the warm weather season!

  1. Happy summer Shauna!! I purchased the tumblers, white ceramic pots and the galvanized tub. All are really great quality and were delivered really fast! I think the white ceramic pots are my favorite as the bamboo trim on them really enhances the design. Thanks so much for sharing your great finds!!
